my everyday style: the best under $50 top!

Image
I don't know about you, but I am always looking for those real gem pieces that are super cute and super easy to wear. This little twist top is exactly that!  It's made from a thinner sweatshirt material that is oh so soft and with the little twist feature in the front it's super flattering.  I love that it can pair with jeans and a leather jacket just as well as with leggings and sneakers for the weekend too.  It would also look super cute with a puffer vest or a denim jacket over top.  And the big bonus is that it's under $50 on top of it all.  Don't like it in grey? It's available in lots of other colors too (14 colors to be exact!). I should probably stop as now I am just gushing. But you get the point. This top rocks. Can you believe it's November TOMORROW. I mean, really people, where does the time go? I have a super exciting November in the works with some fun blog projects that are outside my comfort zone, but going to be really great.  We also have...

what I am reading this month... October 2017!

Image
I'm a book worm through and through! Each month I take a minute to let you know what books I have been reading and loving for the month... it continues to be a popular series here on the blog, and I love to write it! So I hope you enjoy it too...  here are some books I enjoyed this month.  Grab a cup of something warm and snuggle in for some perfect fall reads! House of Shadows by Nicola Cornick... Historical fiction at it's finest, this book is brilliantly laid out featuring three time periods, strong characters and a touch of mystery and magical realism to keep it interesting. The book follows the timeline of a modern day sister searching for her brother that went missing while researching their family history and mirrors it with timelines in both the 1600's and 1800's. It reminded me of a Susanna Kearsley's work, of whom I am a big fan. I actually read this in July, but since it comes out this month... I thought I would feature it this month instead.  ( Please n...

3 fall outfit formulas under $100!

Image
I don't know about you - but where I live the weather turned CHILLY this past weekend!  The furnace is now in full on fall/winter mode in my house and now my outfits are too! Up until now we have had chilly mornings and evenings and now we are just plain cold. ;) I love bundling up and layering up to face the weather this time of year... and hopefully to face it in style. Today I am pulling together three easy fall outfit formulas you can try this fall for those days when you are asking "What should I wear today?" I use outfit formulas to simplify the way I get dressed in the morning.  Having little tricks like these making getting dressed easy on the hardest of mornings.  I love to pair feminine and frilly details like a ruffled top with distressed jeans. Or pull out a cozy combo of an oversized sweater with ankle boots.  And while I'm not 100% on board with the athleisure trend, I like to take cues from it by pairing sneakers, a sweatshirt and jeans together for wee...

my everyday style: the pumpkins!

Image
Everyone loves a trip to the pumpkin patch or farm stand to stock up on pumpkins, gourds, mums and the rest this time of year.  Now that my kids are teens/tweens they don't get too hyped up about going to the pumpkin patch... but once we get there we all have a lot of fun.  I can usually get them to laugh at my silly 'mom jokes' still and a bribe/side of some hot cocoa will get everyone in the mood.   My daughter likes to find the smallest cutest pumpkin or the saddest looking one that needs a home.  And of course my son has to find the biggest or the ugliest one and claim that one as his own.  I like to try and find a variety of styles so they all look festive on the front porch. Lately I am savoring every moment with these two. My son will be 13 later this week, which is insane and they are both already so busy I feel like I never see them much anymore! I remember the baby and toddler years being so difficult and like I could never catch up on sleep.  And while I still wi...

loving lately: clean beauty!

Image
I've long been a label-reader on my beauty products... and while I will say it can be super daunting to even pronounce the ingredients on beauty products it can be even more daunting to know what they actually mean.  I first heard about "clean beauty" over 10 years ago... when I learned that some beauty products contained unsavory ingredients (I won't go into details, you don't want to know!) my ears instantly perked up. Over the years since then I work to read labels and become informed... THE BEST I CAN. And that's my goal here... are ALL the personal care and beauty products I use 100% safe? I will be the first to admit my answer is NO.  But do I work to make sure they are about 90% safe? YES!  I always want to make sure that a product actually works - so there are a few products that I am still holding on to (hello hairspray, nail polish, and dry shampoo) that could be safer.  Any move towards safer products is a win in my book. The point of it all is that...

my everyday style: affordable cashmere from Everlane!

Image
This post is sponsored by Everlane and Shopstyle. All opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that support this blog. How about those fall leaves, huh!?!? We are at peak fall color here in my hood and it's pure fall eye candy every where you look. I feel like I want to stop and take a picture of each and every leaf... which according to my TimeHop app I am known to do.  But soon enough these beauties will be gone and I just want to savor it as much as possible!  But you didn't come here for any leaf peeping, so let's get to the outfit... I'm obsessed with these creamy white jeans this fall and to be honest I think I have worn white jeans more this fall that I did for the entire summer. Maybe it's me holding on to any last shred of summer... maybe it's just how awesome these jeans are. It's hard to say.  But when I went to style this beautiful cream cashmere sweater from Everlane - it just begged to be worn with creamy white jeans too. And ...

25 gorgeous outerwear picks under $200!

Image
Oh hello cold snap!  This week in Michigan it turned cold and rainy fall, versus the warm and sunny fall we've been having up until this point. And since I'm not a huge winter-lover, I am still in full denial that winter is on it's way! So while I'm not ready to face winter, I will be willing to face it under one condition: that I can do it in style!  And on a budget... always on a budget too. Today I rounded up so, so many amazing outerwear pieces to get you through this cold snap and all the upcoming cold snaps until spring shows it's face in the best way I know how.  I say this every year and I honestly believe it: gorgeous coats, cozy scarves and warm hats make winter bearable and even give me a little pep in my step through the cold grey days. Good quality warm coats and scarves and hats can really put a dent in your wallet, so today I pulled together what I think are some really great values on these big investment pieces.  I think you will like these pieces a...

my everyday style: a cozy cape for for fall!

Image
Capes and ponchos are no stranger to this blog... I LOVE them and I'm not shy about it.  They are the perfect extra layer for a cool fall day and are basically the only socially acceptable way of wearing a blanket in public.  And who doesn't want to wear a blanket 24 hours a day when the weather cools? Not me. I'm always cold.  I love that  this cape has buttons so you can choose how buttoned into it you want to be or not be.  Here I opened a few of the middle buttons so my arms are free.  For cold football or soccer games I could see button all the buttons and just hiding my arms inside to keep warm.  How's that for versatility? This outfit is really my ideal look.. a cozy warm cape  (this one is available in navy too!), a super soft fitted tee underneath, perfectly stretchy skinny jeans and riding boots .  I could wear this ALL FALL.  And I might just try... home tour: living room!

Please note, the artwork in this post was provided free of charge to me by Minted .  All opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that support this blog! I am SO SO excited to kick off a home tour series here on the blog today! As many of you know, about a year ago (August, 2017) we purchased a new-to-us home and promptly got to work on renovating it.  This 'project' had been in the works for quite a few years when we knew we had outgrown our previous home as a family.  We searched high and low for a home that would work for our family as we moved out of the baby and toddler stage and into the teenager stage.  As it stands now, we plan for this house to be our home until we empty nest.  I absolutely LOVE looking at houses and planning and renovating them.  Yes, even through the tears, the frustration and the busted budgets.  I truly love the process... so I'm sure there will be some more amazing renovations in our future... heck, even this house isn't te...
