what I read this month... August 2017!

Image
August was another great month for reading for me... although I will be honest, I can't believe I squeezed in six (6!!!) books.  This month was full of lots of page turners that made for classic summer reads.  A lot of people ask how I read so much or find time for it.  My number one tip (especially if you have kids that are around the ages of my kids and need to be driven everywhere) is to bring a book everywhere you go.  I will 99% of the time leave my house with a book.  It never fails practice runs late and I can read while waiting or that dreaded "get to the game 45 minutes before it starts" instantly turns into reading time.  I also love to take baths and when I get stressed (i.e. back to school season) I can knock out a few hours a week in the bath reading.  It's a win win for everyone (since I usually retreat to the bath when I've had enough of my kids, it saves us all - haha!).  Every little bit adds up.  Caraval - I don't read a lot of YA or SciFi, ...

12 classic fall must-haves at all price points!

One of my favorite things about fall clothes is that there are quite a few classics that you can invest in that will last for seasons and seasons to come.  Classics are always the backbone of my fall wardrobe and I know a lot of you feel the same way. A few of you asked for a round up of the classics for fall and since I aim to please... well, here it is!  These products are easy to style, super versatile and of course, my favorite: comfortable and easy to wear.  I also included links and products at multiple price points, so if you are on a budget - all those pieces are under $100. There is nothing like layering up a cozy cardigan and distressed jeans  with ankle boots for fall.  This fall I love the addition of the mule as a trend and staple in your closet, I have a feeling this style will carry through to spring as well.  I always love breaking out my denim jacket and pairing it with plaid or a cozy scarf .  And as I head out to soccer and football games I love having a big tot...

my everyday style: a classic returns!

This past weekend we spent in Northern Michigan was pure bliss. It was so great to have a little break from the action before school started this week. We definitely needed to escape for a bit and spend our days at the lake swimming and sunbathing and then evenings making fires, roasting s'mores and drinking wine (well, the adults at least!). We forced the kids to take a break from screens and video games and text messaging (ugh, teens) and I loved every minute of it. The older the kids get the crazier life gets and yes, that's so cliche, but it's true! This year we have a 5th grader and a 7th grader - I mean how did that even happen? My husband and I were saying that it's the beginning of the end with these two... The first 10/13 years, respectively, went so fast and now it's speeding up.  If I think about it too much I get a little lump in my throat knowing that before I realize it they will be moving out.  Parenthood is a crazy thing. In other news (before I star...

my everyday style: a little summer and a little fall!

Image
It's a big day here in our house as my kiddos head back to school today... I always have mixed feelings about the first day of school as a mom.  As a working mom I really appreciate it, because I can finally get my work done in peace and really prioritize the blog and my business first instead of last - which is what usually happens in the summer.  As just a regular mom I know I will miss the both the craziness and the laziness of summer - even though that seems contradictory, summer with teens/tweens is both laid back and incredibly insane at the same time (I SO, SO miss those days of toddlers napping believe it or not!). My wardrobe loves back to school season. With a regular schedule I can get back to showering regularly (you know what I mean moms) and getting dressed every day in something besides a swimsuit or that one random tank top and flip flops I seemed to wear all summer. In short, I am incredibly thankful to get back to a schedule. This outfit is the perfect 'back t...
